What this automation does, step by step
As soon as open enrollment opens in Gusto, every eligible employee is automatically enrolled in a staggered reminder sequence: an initial email explaining the plan options and deadline, a Slack nudge to anyone who hasn't logged in after one week, and a final urgent reminder 48 hours before the window closes to anyone who still hasn't made an election.
Employees who default into last year's plan because they missed the deadline get flagged in Airtable so HR can follow up personally rather than discover the gap during a benefits audit months later.
Since putting this in place, HR teams typically see enrollment completion rates climb close to 100 percent, eliminating the scramble of manual exceptions after the deadline passes.
